Worthy offer to study PhD in Denmark.The Danish Cardiovascular Academy (DCAcademy) aims to strengthen the Danish cardiovascular research environment through excellent interdisciplinary education and training of young researchers. The goal is to improve understanding of disease mechanisms and improve disease prevention, diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for PhD in the cardiovascular research field.
  • Admissible Criteria: In order to apply for the DCAcademy PhD Program, the following requirements must be fulfilled:
  • The candidate must have a Master’s degree from a Danish university or an equivalent degree from a foreign university by the time of application.
  • The main supervisor must be associated with a Danish university.
  • A supervisor can only be main supervisor on one application per call.
  • Applications can be within any field of cardiovascular research.
  • The candidate and the main supervisor must fulfill the requirements:
  • Supervisors cannot apply for PhD scholarships; only candidates may apply.
  • Applicants can only apply for one PhD Scholarship per application round.
  • Applicants may re-apply up to three times, and it is important that they indicate whether their application is a re-application for the same or similar project or a different project.
  • The main supervisor must be affiliated with a Danish university and provide documentation that the supervisor’s group has experience with the essential methods as well as the expertise and funding necessary for a successful PhD-project. It is only possible to be the main supervisor on one application.

Offered Benefits

The scholarships cover salary and tuition fees for the scholarship period. The Academy offers:

  • PhD scholarships provide 1/3 funding which amounts to 550,000 DKK
  • PhD scholarships provide 2/3 funding which amounts to 1,100,000 DKK
  • PhD scholarships providing full funding, which amounts to 1,650,000 DKK

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Applications must be in English and submitted through the online application system: efond.dk/dca
  • In the application system, applicants must provide relevant contact information, a project title, and short project description in English and Danish and upload the main application document into a single PDF file.
  • Supporting Documents: All the following documents must be prepared using standard fonts, font size 11- 12, and line spacing between 1.15 and 1.5.:
  • Project description including: 1) Aim and specific objectives, 2) Background and significance, 3) Preliminary studies/results (if applicable), 4) Hypotheses, 5) Project design and methods, 6) Risk management strategy (“plan B”), 7) Perspectives, 8) Literature cited (max 4 pages, including illustrations; excluding references)
  • The candidate’s contribution including: 1) a description of which parts of the project the candidate is expected to perform independently, 2) a description of which parts of the project other research team members will contribute/be responsible for (max 1 page)
  • Candidate’s CV (max 2 pages)
  • Grade transcript
  • Other relevant documents
  • To be prepared by main supervisors: 1) Description of the research environment and the supervisors’ including- a) Description of how the interdisciplinary and/or trans-sectorial aspects contribute to synergies within the project area, b) Supervisors’ involvement and contribution to the project, c) Experience with supervision and relevant methods, d) Contribution to the research training of the scholar (max 2 pages), 2) CV for each supervisor, including 5 publications most relevant for the proposed project (max 2 pages per CV)
  • Admission Requirements: The candidate must have research experience and be no more than 5 years from the candidate/master’s degree (excluding periods of maternity and paternity leave, disease, and “hoveduddannelse”).
  • An education as MSc. (cand. scient.) can be considered as having research experience from the thesis.
  • An MD is expected to have research experience beyond the medical training (e.g., publications, submitted manuscripts, pre-graduate research year).
  • Language Requirement: High-level of proficiency in English is required
