University of Ibadan (UI) is now accepting applications from students living with physical disabilities for its 201/2022 academic session scholarship scheme.

The Postgraduate College, University of Ibadan is pleased to announce a Scholarship Scheme for Students Living with Physical Disability for 2021/2022 academic session and to invite interested Master’s degree and PhD students of the University of Ibadan to submit applications for consideration for an award.

University of Ibadan Scholarships for Students with Physical Disability for Master Established in 1948, University of Ibadan is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Ibadan (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Oyo. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the National Universities Commission, Nigeria, University of Ibadan (UI) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Ibadan (UI) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 71 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 40-50% making this Nigerian higher education organization a averagely selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, candidates are expected to

  • Have been medically certified as having a form of physical disability (visual impairment, hearing impairment, paralysis, etc.)
  • Have been admitted for higher degree studies at the University of Ibadan.
  • They must be holders of good honours degrees (minimum of Second Class Upper division or equivalent for Master’s students).
  • PhD. student applicants must, in addition, possess a Master’s degree (minimum of 5.0 cumulative grade point average or equivalent) of any University recognised by the Senate of the University of Ibadan, in any academic discipline.
  • Candidates who are already under another scholarship scheme need not apply.

Offered Benefits

The award involves:

  • A waiver of tuition and all other Postgraduate College-related fees.
  • It also carries a monthly stipend subject to review by the Postgraduate College from time to time.
  • The award is tenable for a maximum of three semesters for Master’s students and a period of one academic session, in the first instance, renewable for a maximum period of two academic sessions for PhD students.
  • Annual renewal of award for PhD students is subject to receipt of positive evaluation reports by the Postgraduate College from the candidate’s supervisor and the Head of Department, at the end of each academic session.

Application Process

All applications should be received in the Provost’s Office, The Postgraduate College within six weeks from the date of this announcement 

Required Documents:

Candidates wishing to be considered for the award of a Scholarship are requested to submit the following documents:

  • An Application form obtainable from the web site of Postgraduate College (https://pgcollege.ui.edu.ng), duly completed by the applicant and endorsed by the Head of Department and Dean of Faculty.
  • Copies of certificates obtained by candidates.
  • Evidence of Registration for the 2021/2022 Session. (Please note that proof of registration for the 2021/2022 session MUST be provided before a letter of award to any successful applicant).
  • Research Proposal/Project Summary of between 5 and 10 pages must be submitted by PhD student applicants only. This should provide a clear statement of the objective of the work to be carried out or that is already being undertaken, its justification, the significance of the study vis-à-vis the existing literature, the methodology, and the expected output. Candidates are strongly encouraged to indicate the original contributions which they hope their study will make to knowledge.
