PhD International Scholarships in Potential Impact of Genomics, Ireland Established in 1972, University of Limerick is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Limerick (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), County Limerick. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Education and Skills, Ireland, University of Limerick (UL) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Limerick (UL) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.   • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, be highly motivated, and will be able to think critically to solve a problem
  • Applicants from non-traditional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  • The applicant should have experience in at least one computer language, be familiar with open source coding practices, including github and containerization, and be excited to write R/Bioconductor code and packages.

Offered Benefits

Each successful scholar will receive a stipend of €16,000 tax-free per annum, with EU tuition fees covered. Non-EU students may have to pay the balance of total fees.          

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Applicants are required to enroll in the PhD degree programme at the University. After that, you can contact[email protected]
  • Supporting Documents: Provide a detailed proposal of the research to be undertaken (on separate sheets if necessary). This should include sections on 1) Description of the topic including the aims of the research; 2) Objectives and/or hypotheses; 3) Research Methodology, including how the data will be collected; and 4) Bibliography and references.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants should have a first or upper second-class honors degree at undergraduate or master’s level or equivalent training in data science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, or a closely related discipline. 
  • Language Requirement: Students must meet the English language requirements of the University.
