The Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) is offering scholarships for LLM and PhD Programme. These scholarships are open to candidates from the East African Community Partner States.

TGCL was established at the School of Law of the University of Dar es Salaam in 2008. It is a joint project of the Universities of Bayreuth and Dar es Salaam.

The language of instruction in the School of Law is English. Those who are not conversant with it should not apply.

University of Dar Es Salaam LLM and PhD Scholarships in Tanzania, 2017 Founded in 1970, University of Dar es Salaam is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Dar es Salaam (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Iringa. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 49 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this Tanzanian higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

The formal minimum requirements for admission to the LLM and PhD programmes are:

  • For the LLM programme: a Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent from a recognised higher learning institutions.
  • For the PhD programme: an excellent LLM degree from a recognised institution
